Zapatero says that no web pages will be closed
His statement goes against the Ministry of Culture which is planning to close pages without a judicial order
There are conflicting reports coming from the Government over the planned policy on the closure of websites on the internet.
The Prime Minister said that the Government was not going to close any web page, and that freedom of expression must be safeguarded. But speaking during a press conference in the Moncloa with the President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero said that intellectual property also has to be protected, because if it was not, it would end up without any intellectual strength, and without intellectual creation.
Meanwhile the internet users associations which met with the Minister for Culture, Ángeles González-Sinde, on Thursday are far from happy. They have called a demonstration at 8pm on Friday outside the Ministry offices in Madrid, in protest at the Ministry for Cultures intention to close, without a judicial order, pages which infringe copyright. The meeting on Thursday was broadcast on Twitter and a group of internet users, publications and bloggers then spent the day drawing up a manifesto which is carried by many pages. The Promusicae Spanish music promoters home page was hacked and the manifesto placed there instead of the usual content.
President of the Internet Users Association, Víctor Domingo, warned that Friday’s protest will not be the last, and that a calendar of action and strategy would be established over forthcoming days. (Via Original Article)
