MPs in the chamber are debating the issue on Friday

A petition was handed in to the Catalan parliament this Monday, signed by 127,000 people demanding an end to bull fighting. The signatures have been collected over the years since the campaign was first launched in 2006. It’s been run by the ADDA Association in Defence of Animals’ Rights and WSPA, the World Society for the Protection of Animals, who want bull fighting banned as a cruel and barbaric practice.

The Catalan parliament is debating the issue on Friday following another petition presented earlier this year by the ‘Prou’ platform with well in excess of the 50,000 signatures which are needed to present what is known as a ‘Popular Legislative Initiative’ to Parlament. The platform gathered 180,000 signatures.

Adda previously presented another petition to Parlament, signed by close to 550,000 people, before starting the new campaign after Barcelona City Council formally declared the Catalan capital as an anti-bullfighting city.

Carmen Méndez, spokesperson for Adda, told Europa Press that, in her opinion, there is ample evidence to show that the majority of the Catalan people are against bullfighting and want the practice to be banned. (Via Original Article)
