El Mundo leads with the latest on Aminatu Haidar, and says that she has asked not to be fed when she loses consciousness. The paper says she has signed her last wishes, and that most of the doctors think she cannot be kept alive by force, although the judges are divided. El Mundo has a photo of her in a wheelchair. The paper quotes her companion ‘She will return home, dead or alive, but if she goes in a coffin the killer will be Spain’.

International news and football dominate the front pages in Spain today
El Mundo notes that three Spanish charity workers have been kidnapped in Mauritania. The two men and a woman were working for the Barcelona-Acció Solidària organisation were taken 150 kms from Nuakchot.
ABC leads with the story and says the three have been kidnapped by Al Qaeda, and that they were taken as they were in a convoy moving material. It says that Spanish Government started another rescue operation in the African continent last night.

The Economist article considers that Prime Minister Zapatero is the eternal optimist, and that the Government may also be too optimistic over the country’s prospects. The article also notes Zapatero’s comments made at the magazine’s forum held in Madrid earlier this week.

Success against ETA leads some of the papers
El País headlines that the swoop against the ETA youth group has sunk the hard wing of the radical ‘abertzale’ left wing. The paper says that 34 members of the group which ‘feeds the gang’ have been arrested. The paper says that 1,000 agents took part in the raids in 16 localities in the Basque Country and Navarra. El País has a photo of a young girl in handcuffs, arrested in San Sebastian.
ABC leads with the arrests of the members of Segi and considers that the police have frustrated an ETA plan to control the youth groups.

La Razón leads with the demand from London for the Civil Guard to ‘leave the Spanish waters of Gibraltar’. The paper notes that the UK presented a diplomatic complaint for the alleged violation of their sovereignty, and that the British embassy described the Civil Guard patrols close to the Rock as ‘incursions’.
