It doubles the previous allowance and will be effective in 2011
A session of the Senate this Wednesday has unanimously approved doubling paternity leave to four weeks, which will be brought in on 1st January 2011. The leave must be taken in one block and covers all new fathers, including in cases of adoption or fostering.
The amendment to the Equality Law now goes back to Congress for a final vote in the lower chamber of parliament before it can become law.
EFE reports the new fathers will be able to take their leave at any time during the mother’s 16 weeks of maternity leave, and will also have the right to decide if they want to take their time off with their new child as half days or as full working days. (Via Original Article)
