All on board escaped unhurt after unconfirmed reports of an explosion in one of the engines

A Spanair flight en route from Madrid to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria had to make an emergency landing in Sevilla in the early hours of Wednesday, owing to ‘problems’ on board the aircraft. Authorities at Sevilla’s San Pablo Airport activated their emergency protocol, but AENA Spanish airports have confirmed that there were no incidents or injuries as flight JK5042 touched down in the Andalucía capital at around 2am.

The 185 passengers spent the remainder of the night in the airport terminal and were transferred on to another flight to Las Palmas at around 9am.

RNE Spanish national television later identified the ‘problems’ on board the aircraft as an explosion in one of the engines. (Via Original Source)
