The papers report on the criticisms of the Government over the Alakrana affair

El Mundo headlines that the Pirates tricked the CNI, Spanish Secret Service, using a sailor’s mobile phone.
The paper says the pirates faked the removal of three of the crew, took the phone of one of them to shore, and made calls so that the secret services would detect them.
El Mundo has front page photos of María Teresa Fernández de la Vega and Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría who clashed in Congress yesterday. The paper notes the Deputy Prime Minister rejected criticism from the opposition on the Goverment’s action during the Alakrana siege, describing it as ‘impeccable’.
ABC leads with this, and headlines the Government says it is satisfied by its ‘phenomenal’ handling of the Alakrana.
Público notes the ‘wave of criticisms’ for the Government on the matter.

El Mundo notes that Obama has given a break to Copenhagen by proposing a reduction in his CO2 of 17%.
The paper notes that he has confirmed his presence at the climate summit.
El País leads with the story, and considers that Obama has saved the climate summit with his plan. The paper notes that the EU was warned how Spain will suffer in particular if there is no agreement.
Publico notes that Obama is to send more troops to Afghanistan, so not ‘to be at war for nine more years’.

Público continues its reports of war crimes in the Congo, and headlines today that the Church financed the Hutu guerrillas. It says a group of United Nations experts have accused several Catholic religious workers of diverting charity funds to FDLR rebels, who are accused of crimes against humanity.

El Mundo headlines that Manuel Chaves, Minister for Territorial Policy, has called El Mundo ‘a puppet of the PP’ for insisting on the story about his daughter, and the application for a grant from the Junta de Andalucía by the company where she works. On closer reading the paper notes the paper was not in fact named.

El País has a photo of one of the demonstrations in the streets yesterday against domestic violence. The paper notes thousands gathered to remember the 50 women who have lost their lives so far this year.

As the verdict on the Catalan Statute is awaited from the Constitutional Court, El Mundo notes that 12 Catalan newspapers have been carrying out a press campaign against the court. The papers warn that the Statute depends on ‘the acceptance of the democratic maturity of a plural Spain’.
ABC notes that the Prime Minister has said that a ruling is now not expected before Christmas.

Público reports on how difficult it is for women to be promoted in the Spanish army, and says there is only one Lieutenant Colonel among the 16,400 women in the military.

El País notes that Roman Polanski is about to be released from jail, and will be paying three million € bail.
The paper also notes how the objection from Brussels against subsidies for the Spanish film industry has opened a war of accusations in Spanish cinema. The paper also notes great concern at events in the Ministry for Culture.

ABC notes that the PSOE is moving ahead with its proposal to recover the memory of the Moors in Spain, Los Moriscos.

El País from the Prisa media group, reports that Telefónica has purchased 21% of Digital Plus, for 470 million. In fact they will pay less as Prisa has a 230 million € debt with Telefónica, which will be cleared by the deal.

And finally,
El Mundo puts the Infanta Elena and Jaime de Marichalar on its masthead and says they will divorce in Madrid and be annulled in the Vatican. El País notes it is the first divorce in the Spanish royal family and ABC gives the Infanta a large photo on the front page. (Via Original Article)
