Hotel bookings in Spain down 8.3 percent

The National Institute of Statistics said in a report today that the number of overnight stays in Spanish hotels in November stood at 4.5 million, a figure which was 8.3 percent below last year’s figure for the same month. The new figures released are a bit surprising as the rate of decrease in bookings had slowed down in October.

While the number of Spanish resident travelers who spent nights in hotels was slightly up by 0.1 percent, the number of non residents staying in Spanish hotels decreased by 10.7 percent year- on- year. The average stay was at 6.3 nights per tourist, 2.6 percent down from November last year.

The fee for travel agencies and tour operators decreased by 0.5 percent, and the apartments’ price index fell by 0.6 percent last month.

Spain’s hotel bookings had last increased by 2 percent in April, when the number of night stays in Spanish hotels had gone up due to the Easter break. Since then, the occupancy has been falling for the past seven months consecutively. (Via Original Source)
