Roofer Stephen Mallon was hurled 25ft to the ground during a brawl near his holiday home in Malaga.

Mr Mallon, of Bournemouth, Dorset, is critically ill with head injuries in a Spanish hospital.

He had gone to help his two teenage sons after they were confronted by a gang of youths at the La Estrella pub in Competa.

He was attacked with bottles and flowerpots before being thrown over the bar’s balcony.

Mr Mallon is fighting for his life in a coma at the Carlos Haya Hospital in Malaga, with his wife Teresa by his side.

His sons were left bleeding and injured in the attack but were released from hospital after treatment, one for a broken nose and the other for a broken arm. (Via Sky)

Reports suggested there was a delay in getting Mr Mallon to hospital because the ambulance crew had to wait for police back-up.

He has visited his holiday home in Competa for about six years.

The village in southern Spain is a popular spot for British and Scandinavian holidaymakers who visit the bars on Friday and Saturday nights.
