British families served with demoliton orders for their homes in Albox
Three were served last week and another five are expected
Demolition orders were last week served on the British owners of three properties in Albox which have been ruled as illegal by the courts. Local Mayor, José García, has told the AUAN association, ‘Abusos Urbanísticos Almanzora NO’, that another five demolitions have been ordered by the courts, and he is legally obliged to carry them out. He has asked AUAN to arrange a meeting with the owners affected in early January, and the association has called on owners who purchased their home in good faith and have received a demolition notice to contact them urgently at info@almanzora-au.org with a view to arranging a meeting with the Mayor.
AUAN represents the interests of more than 250 owners in the area with precarious legal status and is co-hosting a candlelit vigil on 9th January at the site in Vera where the home of the British couple, Len and Helen Prior, once stood, to mark the two-year anniversary of its demolition. They have been living since then in their former garage without mains water or electricity and, AUAN reports, have received no compensation for the loss of their home.
The association said the vigil is also organised as an act of solidarity and support ‘for all victims of urban abuse in Spain’.
AUAN notes that, despite hundreds of houses in the area standing empty, unsold or uncompleted, the Provincial Commission has recently approved the rezoning of 26 hectares of land for the construction of 400 new houses in the Santa Cruz area of Albox. (Via Original Source)
